First and Lasting Impressions

If a book doesn’t grab the reader right away, chances are it will be put aside.  We all have way too much going on in our lives to spend time on a book that is not compelling. If the reader is not engaged by the end of the first page of a story, they will generally not read further.  That being said, the end is what the reader remembers.  An ending wraps up what the entire book has been in the process of setting up.  The purpose of a book is to give all the clues, motivations and responses that culminate in a satisfactory ending.  An ending does not have to be happy, but an ending has to be earned
