A Really Short Story

ehAn often-repeated tale is that Ernest Hemingway bet a gathering of writers at the famed Algonquin Round Table that he could write a story in just six words.  Doubting this – or perhaps just eager to see what he would come up with – they accepted the wager.  The story that Hemingway reportedly came up with has a beginning, a middle and an end, and it went like this:

For Sale. Baby Shoes. Never Used.
