Successful Writers Make Time To Write

imagesI always encourage writers to set time aside each day for their craft. Creating a routine and always finding time for your characters can make all of the difference.  Writer MacKenzie Bezos, a talented writer who also happens to be the wife of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, often gets up as early as 4:30 or 5 am to write. In a recent talk with Seattle Met, she shared some of her writing process as she prepares for the release of her newest book, Traps. Talking about her characters, Bezos said, “I have to keep up these pretend people in order for them to have space in my life … Writing and parenting are so different. With writing a novel, nothing really comes out of the pipeline for a long time and you don’t really solve the problem for a couple years, and also nobody needs you. Parenting is pretty much the opposite—you’re solving tons of little problems and the need is really urgent.”
